WHO IS AALS?

This group was first established in the early ’90s as the African American Leadership Initiative (AALI). In 2020, United Way and community leaders began to re-introduce this affinity group with the goal of engaging more communities of color in United Way work. AALS is comprised of philanthropic advocates for equity in our community. The mission: to positively impact people of color through philanthropy, advocacy, and empowered leadership.

Members invest $500 annually, showing the importance of philanthropy in communities of color. Members are connected to volunteer opportunities that are aligned with the goals of United Way of Forsyth County.

ADVOCACY

We commit to an inclusive and intentional focus on minority-led organizations and historically marginalized populations.

Our focus is to identify issues of importance in underserved communities and find collaborative solutions.

EMPOWERED LEADERSHIP

We are a diverse group of community leaders who fulfill the vision and mission of AALS and connect with members of Emerging Leaders United, Tocqueville Society, and Women United.

Our Steering Committee ensures our voices are heard and makes important decisions about our work in the community.
